IP for Startups: Considerations for Prosecution, Diligence, and Litigation
Sunday, August 18 | 5:00-5:25 p.m. MT

Intellectual property is a key value driver for startup companies. This talk will focus on practical tips for startups and academic spinouts to effectively and efficiently build their patent portfolio, with an emphasis on obtaining quality patents that investors will respect and that are in the best position to survive challenges — in other words, not pursuing patents simply to hit numerical filing targets, and understanding and leveraging the long-term value of a well-crafted patent portfolio. This talk will provide some tools to support achieving these goals on a limited budget with a lean team, including describing the necessary discipline and understanding the interplay of scientific, business, and legal considerations.

Presenter:

  • Caleb Bates, Principal, Fish & Richardson
