Minimizing Litigation Risk Through Collaborative Patent Organizations
Monday, November 7, 2022 | 11:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. PT
Innovation depends upon collaboration. The best innovations often arise when diverse and even conflicting ideas come into contact with one another and fuse to create something truly groundbreaking. Far from stifling innovation, patents supercharge it — so long as patent owners are shielded from costly and frivolous patent litigation. Collaborative Patent Organizations (CPOs) allow their members to practice and license their patents while minimizing the risk of litigation by patent assertion entities. This session will explore:
- Why you should care about CPOs
- What CPOs are and some of the problems they try to solve
- The latest status of major CPOs and their recent initiatives
- Other collaborative efforts, including standards bodies, open source licensing, and patent pools
Speaker:
- Eric Schulman, Principal, Fish & Richardson
