NEW FCC LICENSING RULES FOR INDEPENDENT TEST LABS

FCC has just adopted new Part 5 Experimental Radio Licensing rules that will apply to all independent labs that do EMC compliance testing. Under the new rules, Compliance Testing Experimental Licenses will run for five years and be renewable for five years. These licenses will not include immunity testing, however anechoic chamber and Faraday cages can be used for such testing without a license requirement.

The new Part 5 Experimental License Rules include:

  • Subpart B — filing requirements and application procedures
  • Subpart C — technical standards and operating requirements
  • Subpart G — rules for Compliance Testing Licenses

The 2013 filing fee for a Compliance Testing Experimental License (Form 442) is $60.00.

The effective date of the new rules is 30 days after Federal Register publication.
