Associate Yun Dong Recognized for Pro Bono Contributions by Casa Cornelia Law Center

Fish & Richardson is proud to share that Casa Cornelia Law Center has recognized Associate Yun Dong at its 17th annual La Mancha Awards.

Dong was honored with Casa Cornelia’s Pro Bono Publico award for her exceptional dedication to representing a pro bono client who is seeking asylum in the U.S. after facing political persecution in his home country. For nearly two years, Dong has advocated for her client throughout the asylum process — including successfully seeking dismissal of his deportation proceedings — and she continues to provide legal support while the government reviews his asylum petition.

Reflecting on her personal commitment to pro bono work, Dong emphasized the importance of using her skills to help mitigate the detrimental impact of a lack of legal resources. “It is rewarding to know that my work may open the possibility of a brighter and different future for my client,” said Dong.

“Fish is proud to provide the support and encouragement that enables our legal staff to make pro bono work an integral part of their practice,” said Principal Lawrence Kolodney, chair of the firm’s pro bono program. “Occasions like the La Mancha Awards remind us to both celebrate our pro bono successes and renew our commitment to providing legal services to those with limited resources or in dire straits. I congratulate Yun for her persistent advocacy that enabled her client to successfully navigate the twists and turns of the asylum-seeking process.”

Casa Cornelia Law Center provides pro bono legal services to victims of human and civil rights violations, with a particular focus on serving the greater San Diego County immigrant community.

This year's La Mancha Awards recipients were honored at a celebration on October 10 in San Diego, California.
