Fish & Richardson Elevates 19 Attorneys to Principal
Fish & Richardson has elevated 20 attorneys to principal at the firm, effective January 1, 2018. The new principals in the firm's Litigation Group are: Erin Alper and Jacqueline Tio (Atlanta); Joanna Fuller (San Diego); Brian Livedalen (Washington, D.C.); Warren Mabey, Jr. (Delaware); and Neil Warren (Silicon Valley). The new principals in the Patent Group are: Dr. Andrea Dorigo (Munich); Dr. Heather Flanagan (Austin); Dr. Angela Follett, Chris Hoff, and Jennifer Huang (Twin Cities); David Holt, Nick Jepsen, Chris Ma, and Andrew Patrick (Washington, D.C.); Dr. Sushil Iyer, formerly Sushil Shrinivasan, (Dallas); Dr. Tiffany Reiter (Boston); and Michael Portnov and Michael Shepherd (Silicon Valley).

Erin Alper continues to focus her practice on patent litigation. Her practice covers a range of technologies in venues across the country, including the International Trade Commission (ITC) and inter partes review proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). She received her J.D., with honors, Order of the Coif, from Emory University School of Law in 2009 and her B.A., magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of Southern California in 2006.
Dr. Andrea Dorigo has experience in both patent-related and transactional aspects of IP and extensive experience in licensing agreements. He received his J.D., cum laude, from New York University School of Law 2001 and his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1987.
Dr. Heather Flanagan continues to focus her practice on U.S. and foreign patent prosecution and counseling, opinion work, due diligence studies, and development and management of patent portfolios in chemistry and related fields. She received her J.D. from the University of Texas Law School, her M.B.A. from the University of Florida, her Ph.D. in physical chemistry from Harvard University, and her B.S. in chemistry from University of Georgia.
Dr. Angela Follett works with a range of clients, from start-up and emerging companies to academic and research institutions in the areas of life sciences, chemistry, and pharmaceuticals with a practice focusing on patent prosecution, portfolio development advice, and strategic patent counseling. She received her J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of St. Thomas in 2011, her Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Minnesota in 2006, and her B.A., magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, in chemistry and biochemistry from Gustavus Adolphus College in 2001.
Joanna Fuller represents pharmaceutical and high-tech clients in patent litigation nationwide in cases encompassing a wide range of technology. She received her J.D., magna cum laude, Order of the Coif, from the University of San Diego School of Law in 2009 and her B.S., with high honors, Phi Beta Kappa, in chemical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley in 1996.
Chris Hoff focuses his practice on patent portfolio development and management, patent prosecution, and post-grant proceedings for a wide variety of clients, ranging from individual inventors and startups to large technology companies. He received his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Minnesota Law School in 2008 and his B.A., magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, in computer science from Carleton College in 2002.
David Holt focuses his practice on patent prosecution and post-grant proceedings for both petitioners and patent owners. He received his J.D. from George Washington University Law School in 2011 and his B.S. in computer and electrical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 2005.
Jennifer Huang assists clients in various aspects of maintaining and enforcing IP rights, including patent prosecution, patent reexamination, due diligence, and litigation. She received her J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Minnesota Law School in 2008 and her B.E., magna cum laude, in electrical engineering, minor in mathematics, from the University of Minnesota in 2005.
Dr. Sushil Iyer, formerly Sushil Shrinivasan, maintains a practice that focuses on domestic and international patent preparation and prosecution in a broad range of technological areas. He received his J.D. from George Washington University Law School in 2012 and mechanical engineering degrees from the University of Virginia (Ph.D.) in 2006, the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (M.S.) in 2001 and the University of Madras (B.E.) in 1998.
Nick Jepsen emphasizes strategic patent prosecution and client counseling related to electrical and computer technology and medical devices as well as patent due diligence and patent post-grant proceedings. He received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Brigham Young University, J. Reuben Clark Law School in 2009 and his B.S., cum laude, Tau Beta Pi, Eta Kappa Nu, in electrical engineering from Brigham Young University in 2006.
Brian Livedalen focuses on all aspects of patent litigation in federal district court and before the U.S. ITC, patent licensing, and post-grant review proceedings. He received his J.D., cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center in 2009 and his B.S. in physics from the University of Virginia in 2005.
Chris Ma emphasizes intellectual property portfolio management and counseling in computer software and hardware technologies, as well as due diligence in connection with technology acquisitions and patent litigation matters. He received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2008 and his B.S. in computer engineering from the University of Virginia in 2005.
Warren Mabey, Jr. emphasizes patent litigation in a wide range of technologies, primarily in the areas of electrical engineering and computer science. He received his J.D., summa cum laude, from Rutgers Law School in 2010 and his B.S. in electrical engineering, with minors in biomedical engineering and economics, from Bucknell University in 2004.
Andrew Patrick emphasizes post-grant proceedings, patent prosecution, client counseling, and portfolio development in his practice and is technically focused on the computer-related, electrical, and mechanical arts. He received his J.D., cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center in 2010, and two B.S. degrees, with high honors, in mathematics and computer sciences and in economics from Colorado School of Mines in 2005.
Michael Portnov focuses his practice on client counseling and preparing and prosecuting patent applications directed to computer-related technologies. He received his J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law in 2009 and his B.A. in mathematics, with a minor in physics, from the University of California, Berkeley in 2006.
Dr. Tiffany Reiter focuses her practice on U.S. and foreign patent prosecution, opinion work, due diligence, and portfolio advisement in the life sciences. Her clients range from start-up to large companies. She has extensive experience in biologic pharmaceuticals (including antibody- and antibody-based technologies, such as CAR-T therapies), methods of manufacturing biologic pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, genetics, and recombinant food technologies. She received her J.D. from Suffolk University Law School in 2012, her Ph.D. in molecular biology from Mayo Graduate School in 2002 and her B.S., summa cum laude, in biotechnology from St. Cloud State University in 1997.
Michael Shepherd focuses his practice on client counseling and patent prosecution in the areas of software and other computer-related technologies. He received his J.D., cum laude, Order of the Coif, from Yeshiva University, Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 2009, and computer science degrees from Syracuse University (M.S., 2005) and University of Notre Dame (B.S., cum laude, 2002).
Jacqueline Tio focuses her practice on IP litigation in venues across the country, including before the U.S. ITC, with an emphasis on patents covering a wide range of technologies. She continues to engage in pro bono matters, such as assisting clients seeking post-conviction relief, and more recently represented amici on issues concerning cybersecurity. She received her J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School in 2009 and her B.S., Phi Beta Kappa, in chemistry from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2006.
Neil Warren focuses his practice on both federal district court litigation and practice before the PTAB with client technologies relating to semiconductors, integrated circuits, medical devices, and computer software.
