Fish & Richardson Named Law360 2021 IP Practice Group of the Year
Fish & Richardson has been named a 2021 IP Practice Group of the Year by Law360 for its high-profile wins in federal courts across the United States and for numerous successful appeals at the Federal Circuit. Fish was one of only five firms nationwide singled out by Law360 for this prestigious award. This is the eighth time, and the second year in a row, that the firm has received this honor.
Fish was selected for its exceptional track record over the past year.Major victories include Fish's leadership in persuading the Federal Circuit to reinstate a $235 million jury verdict Fish obtained for client GlaxoSmithKline in a case related to infringement of the heart disease drug Coreg, the firm's work in overturning a $1.2 billion judgment against client Gilead's Kite Pharma in a high-profile dispute over Kite's revolutionary CAR-T cancer immunotherapy drug, and the reinstatement of a $23.7 million enhanced willfulness damages decision against Cisco for client SRI to resolve an eight-year cybersecurity patent infringement dispute.
Fish also took over a case on behalf of uCloudlink after the company lost a district court case related to a telecommunications patent, resulting in $8.2 million in damages and an injunction. On appeal to the Federal Circuit, Fish completely turned the case around, exonerating uCloudlink from the finding of infringement. In another case, a Fish team helped long-time client Samsung Electronics expand the ruling of non-infringement it obtained in the district court by convincing the Federal Circuit to overturn the aspect of the district court decision that upheld the validity of Rain Computing's patent holding the claims invalid for lack of written description. The stakes in the matter were particularly high, as Rain had alleged infringement in Samsung's top-selling Galaxy smartphones.
"In 2021, the Litigation Group reversed a number of high-stakes cases on appeal, including challenging matters that we took over after adverse district court decisions,” noted Kurt Glitzenstein, leader of the Litigation Practice Group at Fish. "The success we've had in these complex, long-running disputes is a reflection of our attorneys' determination, skill, and creativity towards getting the results that our clients deserve."
