Fish & Richardson Presents Inaugural GRIT Award at Massachusetts Science and Engineering Fair in Memory of Late Colleague
Fish & Richardson proudly presented the inaugural GRIT Award at the Massachusetts Science and Engineering Fair (MSEF) on April 4, honoring a student who exemplifies Guts, Resilience, Initiative, and Tenacity (GRIT). The award, sponsored by Fish in memory of late friend and colleague Tim French, recognizes a high school student who has demonstrated exceptional perseverance and growth throughout their Science Fair journey.
Boston Office Managing Principal Todd Garcia, joined by Principal Jeffery Barclay, as well as French’s wife, Beth, and their three children, presented the award, marking Fish’s first year sponsoring and presenting this honor. “Tim’s passion for MSEF was undeniable—his enthusiasm for judging student projects and recognizing innovative ideas was contagious,” said Garcia, “Through the GRIT Award, we celebrate his legacy by continuing to support the next generation of scientists, engineers, and inventors.”
French, who passed away in December 2024, was a respected patent and trademark attorney, a dedicated mentor, and a passionate advocate for STEM education. He served on the Board of Directors of MSEF, where he worked tirelessly to support students and foster innovation.
Before retiring in 2020, French held several leadership roles at Fish, including serving as leader of the Trademark & Copyright Group, corporate secretary of the firm, and managing principal of the Boston office. French is remembered not only for his professional accomplishments but also for his generosity, leadership, and unwavering commitment to the legal and STEM communities.
Fish is honored to sponsor and present this award in his memory, ensuring his legacy continues to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, and inventors.
