Fish & Richardson Wins Six 2022 LMG Life Sciences Awards, Including "IP Firm of the Year"
Fish & Richardson's life sciences group was recognized as one of the best in the country at this year's LMG Life Sciences Awards, taking home awards in six prestigious categories.
The firm was the winner of three nationwide recognitions - "Intellectual Property Boutique of the Year," "General Patent Litigation Firm of the Year," and the coveted "Intellectual Property Firm of the Year" award. In addition, Juanita Brooks was named "Hatch-Waxman Litigator of the Year - Branded" and her case, GlaxoSmithKline v. Teva, was announced as a 2022 "Impact Case of the Year." Finally, another of Fish's cases, Juno Therapeutics v. Kite Pharma, was also named an "Impact Case of the Year," an honor the firm shared with co-counsel Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe.
Fish has a long history of recognition at the LMG Life Sciences Awards. This is the firm's second time as "IP Firm of the Year," fourth time as "Boutique of the Year," and third time as "General Patent Litigation Firm of the Year." Since 2017, no other firm has won all three of these national awards in the same year.
Brooks is also no stranger to recognition from LMG. She was named "California Patent Litigator of the Year" at the 2019 awards. This year, a case she led, GlaxoSmithKline v. Teva, was one of just 11 U.S. cases identified as an "Impact Case of the Year." The dispute, which revolved around client GlaxoSmithKline's heart disease drug Coreg®, resulted in two high-profile, precedential decisions at the Federal Circuit in October 2020 and August 2021. Those decisions upheld a $235 million jury verdict in favor of GlaxoSmithKline.
"GSK v. Teva has been a long, complex dispute - the original jury verdict was handed down over five years ago," said Brooks. "I'm proud of the persistence, problem-solving, and technical knowledge that the Fish team demonstrated both in trial and through multiple challenging appeals."
The world's most innovative life sciences companies, academic institutions, and research organizations trust Fish's Life Sciences Group - with its more than 115 attorneys and technical specialists with biology, chemistry, or genetic engineering degrees, including over 50 attorneys with Ph.D.s - to handle their most important and technically sophisticated work. Fish's litigation practice is known for its ability to handle massive, high-profile patent disputes requiring extensive global litigation coordination, and the firm is a leader in Hatch-Waxman litigation for branded pharmaceutical companies.
