Juanita Brooks Named a 2017 Influential Woman

Fish Principal Juanita Brooks has been named to The Daily Transcript's list of "Influential Women" for 2017. The San Diego business women included in this year's list are recognized for having a major impact on their company, industry and community.

Juanita is a nationally recognized trial and appellate lawyer specializing in complex intellectual property, product liability and mass tort litigation. She is known for her master storytelling and inherent ability to translate complex technical jargon into relatable conversational terms that both judges and juries understand. She is a hard-hitting cross-examiner who represents companies from startups to Fortune 100 companies.

The publication highlighted Juanita’swork to diversify the legal profession. She was the first Hispanic woman to establish a private criminal defense practice in San Diego and is a frequent volunteer, speaker and advocate for women and minorities.

"If you never see someone who looks like you as lead counsel, you have a hard time picturing yourself as lead counsel. For my generation, there were very few role models, so I try to be the best role model I can be,” Juanita said in The Daily Transcript interview.

To demonstrate her track record of success, The Daily Transcript showcased Juanita's recent awards, including being named a “Life Science Star” for 2016 by LMG Life Sciences; recognized by The Daily Journal as one of the Top 100 Lawyers and Top IP Lawyers in California for 2016; and profiled in a National Law Journal special report with colleague Jon Singer for winning one of the year’s most significant, high-stakes court cases for Gilead Sciences Inc.
