Fish & Richardson Principal Karl Renner has been named 2024 Patent Prosecutor of the Year by the Bar Association of the District of Columbia (BADC), in recognition of his notable achievements in the field of patent prosecution and post-grant proceedings.
Renner, who serves as chair of Fish’s Post-Grant Practice Group, focuses his practice on client counseling, strategic patent prosecution, and contentious inter partes and ex parte post-grant and reissue work before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. With a technical emphasis on the electrical, computer-related, physics, and mechanical arts, Renner has provided direction for nearly 900 America Invents Act post-grant matters, both challenging and defending patents, most commonly in coordination with litigation counsel amidst co-pending disputes.
Additionally, Renner manages the patent portfolios of clients ranging from emerging companies to Fortune 50 corporations, and he regularly advises on effective commercialization/enforcement of company intellectual property and on defensive tactics to address competitor IP. Renner also serves on Fish’s management committee, previously served as president of the PTAB Bar Association, and is a frequent lecturer and author on IP matters.
On December 7, Renner was recognized at the BADC’s 153rd Awards Banquet and Gala in Washington, D.C.
