Will Bootle focuses his practice on patent litigation and post-grant proceedings.
With a background in computer science, Will is comfortable with a wide range of electrical and computer technologies, including telecommunications, machine learning, computer vision, autonomous vehicles, and mobile payments.
Will served as a judicial law clerk at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (2023-2024), allowing him to provide his clients with unique insights into proceedings before the Board. As a law clerk, Will gained extensive knowledge on issues of patent validity and claim construction, Board-specific procedure, and the interplay between America Invents Act trials and co-pending District Court litigation. Additionally, Will served a detail in the Office of the Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office, where he assisted with Director Review decisions and patent policy initiatives.
Will is a registered patent attorney. Prior to joining Fish & Richardson, Will drafted and prosecuted patent applications. This experience helps him understand a patent’s prosecution history and develop strategies to attack or defend a patent’s validity and claim scope during litigation. Will also has experience handling patent cases before U.S. District Courts and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.
When he’s not at work, Will can be found golfing, skiing, or cheering on the South Carolina Gamecocks.
