Overview

Xingan Wang, Ph.D., provides patent prosecution services to life sciences clients in jurisdictions around the globe. He is a registered European patent attorney practicing as a professional representative before the European Patent Office (EPO) and a certified patent attorney with the European Patent Litigation Certificate (EPLC), enabling him to practice as a representative before the Unified Patent Court (UPC). In addition, Xingan is qualified as a Chinese patent attorney before the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA).

With an in-depth understanding of both European and Chinese patent law, Xingan has legal experience that spans drafting European patent and Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) applications, conducting freedom-to-operate (FTO) analyses, drafting oppositions and responses to oppositions before the EPO, preparing third-party observations for the EPO, providing professional opinions on EPO practices, instructing responses to the CNIPA, and advising on procedural and strategic matters before the CNIPA. His ability to navigate the complexities of cross-jurisdictional patent systems makes him a valuable resource for clients operating in Europe and China.

Beyond his professional role as a patent attorney, Xingan is also a member of Examination Committee III for the European Qualifying Examination (EQE), where he is responsible for evaluating and marking the examination papers of European candidates to ensure they meet the required professional standards.

As a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Hong Kong and a postdoctoral fellow at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry in Martinsried, Xingan gained extensive research experience in genetics, developmental biology, cell biology, molecular biology, immunology, and protein chemistry. This strong scientific foundation enables him to excel as a patent attorney, with technical expertise encompassing immunology, T-cell therapy, antibodies, mRNA and lipid nanoparticle (LNP) technology, vaccines, polypeptides, cancer therapies, molecular biology, cell biology, organic and inorganic chemistry.

In addition to his professional work with the EPO and the CNIPA, Xingan is also actively interested in learning about practices before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), the Japan Patent Office (JPO), and the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), aiming to broaden his skills and provide comprehensive patent prosecution services to life sciences clients across multiple jurisdictions.
